The motor carrier industry is composed of those companies that transport goods, materials or commodities by motor vehicle in California or any other states in the United States. The term “motor carrier” is defined in motor carrier regulations as “a common, contract, or private carrier of property by motor vehicle/” In the auto/trucker insurance industry, the term “trucker” is commonly used to refer to common or contract carriers, i.e. those motor carriers that transport property for hire rather than transporting their own property.
